In 1946, a group of plaintiffs' attorneys involved in workers' compensation litigation founded the National Association of Claimants' Compensation Attorneys (NACCA). Their devotion to securing strong representation for victims of industrial accidents soon attracted admiralty, railroad, and personal injury lawyers. It wasn't long before the group included attorneys engaged in almost all facets of trial advocacy. Reflecting its growth and expanded commitments, NACCA, in 1972, emerged as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA). In 1977, ATLA's headquarters moved from Boston to Washington, DC. Today, ATLA is a broad-based, international coalition of attorneys, law professors, paralegals, and law students.

The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) was initially formulated by eleven college and university security directors. These eleven directors came together November 6, 1958, on the campus of Arizona State University to discuss job challenges and mutual problems, and specifically to create a clearinghouse for information and issues shared by campus directors across the country. Today, IACLEA membership represents over 1,000 colleges and universities located in twenty countries. In addition to the colleges and universities, which are the Institutional Members, individual memberships are held by campus law enforcement staff members, criminal justice faculty members and municipal chiefs of police (current membership is over 1,600).

The Women Peace Officers Association of California was organized on November 16, 1928 in San Bernadino at a luncheon sponsored by the Los Angeles Policewomen's Association. The Los Angeles association sponsored the first survey done in California which identified women police officers from throughout the state. This survey was conducted by Alice Stebbins Wells of the Los Angeles Police Department. The twenty-six women officers present voted to organize a statewide association and elected Mrs. Wells as its first President. The goals were to promote training for policewomen at a time when women in law enforcement were not allowed to participate in the same training as their male counterparts. Today we have grown into an organization of both men and women dedicated to the advancement of women in law enforcement.
